Sefton Carers Centre realise that carers and those they care for are often at a disadvantage financially. Carers may have to reduce or give up work to fulfil the caring role, and those who are cared for also may have had to give up work, or be reliant on benefits, and may well have additional household expenses as a result of their disabilities.
Sefton Carers Centre has a full time Welfare Benefits Advisor, who will see carers individually at the Carers Centre. He will offer advice about how to apply for them. He will also provide practical support for people if they require assistance to fill in benefit forms etc. He is also able to provide support or representation at tribunals or appeals, and liaise on behalf of carers with organisations such as Social Services and the Department of Works and Pensions.
The Welfare Benefits Advisor can provide advice and support about all types of benefits and will clarify as far as possible people’s entitlement to both means tested and non means tested benefits. The sort of benefits that he can provide advice about include:
This is not an exhaustive list and advice can be provided on any welfare benefits issues.
