Short Break Voucher Scheme

What is it?

This scheme aims to give you flexibility in the way you make arrangements for the person you care for when you decide to take a break. There is no restriction on how you use the break, you may want to follow an activity, attend appointments, go shopping or simply have a rest.

Vouchers are issued in 'time value' units of one hour home based care; this is the minimum amount of time you can use when booking a break.
They can only be exchanged for services from an agency which has been approved by the Local Authority.
You and the person you care for decide when you want to 'spend' the vouchers.
You contact the agency directly to make arrangements for the dates and times you prefer.
After the service has been provided you hand the corresponding number of vouchers for the hours you have used to the agency carer.

How do I apply for the scheme?

To access the scheme you and the person you care for must have an assessment of your needs undertaken by a Social Worker. During the assessment you will have the opportunity to discuss the type of services needed to enable you to take a break and decide whether the scheme is suitable for you and the person you care for.
