You can get help with setting up and managing your support. You can employ your own support workers, or you can use an agency.

What if I decide to employ my own support workers?

You will need to think about:

What you want them to do

What sort of people you want people
How to find the right staff and make sure they are doing a good job. staff
You will also need to think about having someone else to support you when your usual support workers are ill or on holiday.

You can get help from your local Direct Payments support scheme. There are also books and organisations that can help with all this.

Suppose I want to set up a Trust instead of employing people myself?

Several people (including you, if you want) can get together and form a Trust. This is a group that can legally make the support arrangements you want. You will still be in control, but the Trust will do the work.

I might want to pay a care agency to provide the support I want.

You can still choose the staff who support you, but they will not be employed by you.
